My Review
Step Brothers is genuinely one of the funniest films ever made and if you haven’t seen it yet you are seriously missing out. Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly have this completely unhinged comedic chemistry that makes every single scene they share together an absolute goldmine. You never quite know what’s going to happen next and that unpredictability is what makes it so endlessly rewatchable.
The highlight of the whole film is easily the boat scene. Watching the Prestige Worldwide presentation completely fall apart in the most spectacular and chaotic way possible is the kind of comedy that genuinely makes you cry laughing. It’s the perfect combination of terrible planning, total confidence and complete disaster and it could not have been executed better.
What makes Step Brothers work so well beyond just being silly is that Ferrell and Reilly make you genuinely care about Brennan and Dale as characters. Underneath all the chaos and immaturity there’s actually a really funny and surprisingly sweet story about two people finding their best friend later in life. It sounds ridiculous because it is, but it works completely.
If you like your comedy loud, stupid and completely committed this is the film for you. One of the most quotable comedies ever made and an absolute must watch.
